The Oak Creek Public Library offers a variety of games and gaming equipment for the enjoyment of library patrons. Access to these items and spaces give users the opportunity to try new technologies. The Gaming Room itself provides recreation and entertainment and fosters social interactions among Oak Creek Public Library users. Available consoles and their controllers (funded in part by Steren McDonald’s Restaurants) include the following:
Patrons of any age are allowed to use the library’s gaming space and equipment. Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a responsible guardian, in accordance with the Patron Behavior Policy.
While you can only use the gaming systems and hardware provided by the library, you are able to use library materials OR provide your own personal games to play on said systems. Users can also use their own accounts to login to gaming/streaming services. If logging in to a personal account, be sure to logout before shutting down any equipment. The library is not liable for any damage or loss that may happen to a user’s personal equipment and/or user accounts. Memory cards, controllers, or extra accessories not provided by the library, are also allowed. Patrons must show personal games and/or accessories to staff before use. Please note that users may be required to end a game if the content is deemed inappropriate for a library setting.
Digital games are pre-installed on most of the library’s consoles. Alternatively, you can checkout games from the library’s physical video game collection to use in the Gaming Room. If you do not have a Milwaukee County library card, you are limited to the library’s digital game collection. View a full list of available games. Some physical games may not be in the library when you have the room reserved, as they can be checked out and taken home by patrons. To see what games are currently available at any given time, please view the collection in the catalog.
Reserve the Gaming Room for a single, one-hour session up to a week in advance, or make a reservation at time of use (depending on availability). Call 414-766-7900 or visit the 2nd floor Service Desk to make a reservation. A valid Milwaukee County library card OR a photo ID is required to make a reservation. If reserving with a library card, please note that there is no minimum fine requirement to use the Gaming Room. After using the room for an hour, patrons can request to have their reservation extended for an additional hour unless there is another reservation. Patrons may extend their reservation up to 3 times, for a total of 4 hours, as long as no one has the room reserved after them.
The room’s maximum capacity is 5 people. The doors will remained locked and, if you need to leave the room during the reservation, a member of the party must stay in the room or an employee will need to unlock the doors for you to reenter. Once you are done using the Gaming Room, remember to check-in at the 2nd floor reference desk. Staff will then ensure that the room is secure and that nothing is missing or has been damaged. Any missing equipment or damage that occurs to library gaming equipment, games, or the gaming space will be the responsibility of the patron or patrons using the items or area at the time the damage occurs.
