Computers

By using the library’s computers, you are agreeing to the library’s Computer Policy.

  • 19 Internet computers available on the 2nd floor for adults/teens (ages 13+), 3 hour time limit per day, valid Milwaukee County Library card or guest pass needed to use.
  • 8 Internet computers available on the 1st floor in the Children’s Department for children/caregivers with children, 3 hour time limit per day, valid Milwaukee County Library card or guest pass needed to use.
  • 3 catalog computers in the Children’s Department, 1 by the 1st floor main Service Desk, 2 on the 2nd floor North side of the building and 2 on the 2nd floor South side of the building (for looking up materials the library owns/placing holds/paying for fines/applying for a new library card, et cetera).

Please note that ALL of the computers in the building turn off 10 minutes before close.

Laptops

Laptops may be checked out for use within the Oak Creek Public Library. Users must be at least 18-years old and have a valid Milwaukee County Library card.

Anyone wishing to checkout a laptop must sign and return a copy of the Laptop Agreement Form. This form can be filled out online and then printed. Please note that it still needs to be signed in person at the 2nd floor Service Desk. Blank copies are also available at this desk.

Laptops may be checked out during open hours and must be returned no later than half an hour before the library closes. There is not a daily time limit on the checkout.

Laptops may not be used in the Civic Center lobby nor removed from the library. If a laptop is left unattended or damaged, checkout privileges may be suspended. A fine may be assessed, which may exceed $500.

WiFi

WiFi is available throughout the building—listed as Oak Creek Library—no password needed.

Equipment for In-library Use Only

Equipment for in-library use is available at the 2nd floor Service Desk. These items may be used during open hours and must be returned no later than half an hour before the library closes. This equipment may not be used in the Civic Center lobby nor removed from the library. Users must have a valid Milwaukee County Library card to check out equipment, or a valid photo ID to temporarily exchange for equipment. USB C Connection Cables
Transfer data from/provide power to devices such as smartphones, tablets, and cameras.

Lightning Cables
Transfer data from/provide power to Apple smartphones.

Power Adapters/Wall Chargers
If you do not plan to plug one of the above cables directly into a computer or laptop’s USB port, you can instead plug it into a power adapter/wall charger to power your device.

USB 3.0 SD Card Readers
Transfer data from a flash drive, SD card, micro SD card, and more to a computer/laptop/removable storage device.

External Disc Drives
Play or read CDs, DVDs, and floppy discs on a computer or a laptop.

Printing/Copying/Scanning

The Oak Creek Public Library offers 8.5” x 11” white paper for printing from the public computer terminals or for photocopying. No other paper sizes are available. Patrons wishing to use their own personal paper may do so by utilizing the photocopier (personal paper is not able to be used for printing from the public computer terminals). Only personal paper sized 8.5” x 11” may be used with the photocopier. Please see a staff member for assistance.

Per page it is .15¢ for black and white copies and .30¢ for color copies. Double-sided photocopying is available. There is a copier on the 2nd floor which can handle printing, copying and scanning.

Scanning is available for free—you can scan to a flash drive (library will not supply a flash drive) or scan to an email address.

The library does not offer faxing services nor in-depth copying assistance and cannot accommodate large copy jobs. Please refer to this list of businesses that may be able to help:

Mobile Printing

With our Mobile Print Service, you can use your personal computer, tablet, or mobile device to print to the library’s printer from anywhere. Simply submit documents for printing using the steps below. Then, release your job from the Print Release Station located on the 2nd floor. Patrons who have a valid Milwaukee County Library Card and owe fines of less than $10.00 may submit a mobile print request for Curbside Pick Up by submitting the Non-library Materials Request Form. The cost of the print will be placed on the patron’s library account. Fill out the form.

How to print from a laptop or desktop computer at home or work:

  • Begin by visiting: Oak Creek Mobile Printing Link
  • Browse your computer to find and select the file you wish to print.
  • Enter the total number of copies desired, B&W or Color, Duplex setting, Layout, and a Page Range.
  • The estimated job cost will display beneath the settings menu.
  • Enter a User Name of your choice or your library card number.
  • You can also enter your email address for a print receipt.
  • Click the orange Submit icon. You will see a pop-up message telling you if the submission was successful or not.
  • At the Print Release Station in the library (2nd floor near the Service Desk), select “Print.”
  • Enter the User Name or library card number you supplied.
  • Insert money or card into the release station, tap “Print,” and select the jobs you want printed.
  • Your print job will now be printed!

How to print from a tablet or smartphone using the PublicPrintLocations app:

  • Visit your device’s “store” for apps; search for PublicPrintLocations.
  • Install and launch the PublicPrintLocations app.
  • If this is your first time using the app, you must agree to the Terms page, enter a valid email address, and enter the activation code sent to your email.
  • Select what you would like to print from a menu of options: Email, Pictures, Files, Web, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Office 365.
  • Allow the app access to whatever type of files you want to print.
  • Select your file/s and tap “Next.”
  • Enter “Oak Creek Public Library” and select that location from the list of providers.
  • Enter the total number of copies desired, a page range, B&W or Color, Layout, and Duplex setting.
  • Enter a User Name of your choice or your library card number.
  • Verify that the printer location is listed as follows: 8040 S 6th St, WI, Oak Creek, 53154
  • Tap “Print.”
  • Go to the top of the screen to see a message telling you if the submission was successful or not.
  • At the Print Release Station in the library (2nd floor near the Service Desk), select “Print.”
  • Enter the User Name or library card number you supplied.
  • Insert money or card into the release station, tap “Print,” and select the jobs you want printed.
  • Your print job will now be printed!

How to use email to send something directly to the library print system:

  • Email from any device directly to the library’s print system at either:
  • You will soon receive an email notification containing the retrieval credentials required to release the job from the library’s Print Release Station.
  • At the Print Release Station in the library (2nd floor near the Service Desk), select “Print.”
  • Enter the retrieval credentials from the email notification you received.
  • Insert money or card into the release station, tap “Print,” and select the jobs you want printed.
  • Your print job will now be printed!
