MCFLS Limitations
All libraries that are members of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System have agreed to the following circulation rules:

  • Patrons may have a total of up to 100 items of any kind checked out on their library card.
  • Patrons are limited to 30 (of each) for DVDs and CDs, and 10 (of each) for software, video games, board games, and kits.

Your borrowing privilege is suspended when fines exceed $5.00.

Log in to your account to see checkouts, due dates, fines, renewals, and items on hold.

Renewals
You can renew most items at least once if no one else is on the waiting list. Call 414-277-0183 to use our automated renewal line or log in to renew online.

Items on Hold and Curbside Pick Up
You can have up to 30 items on hold at any time. Request an item through our catalog, in person (8040 S. 6th St., Oak Creek, WI), or by phone: 414-766-7900. If you don’t see something you want, request it.

Once an item comes in, it can be picked up via the hold shelf or Curbside. When your items are ready for pick up, you will be contacted by phone or email (depending on how you set it up when you first received your card). To change this preference, login to your account or call the library. There is also the option to receive text message alerts. Sign up for text message notifications.

Pick Up Lockers
Alternatively, pick up lockers are located on the west side of the library next to the entrance doors along 6th Street, allowing you to pick up your holds day or night, all 365 days of the year. To use this method of pick up, select ‘Oak Creek Locker’ as the pickup location when placing items on hold via CountyCat. Once your materials arrive, a staff member will check them out to you and place them in a locker. You will receive a notification with a unique code to open your locker and retrieve your items. Lockers are available on a first come, first served basis. If items are not retrieved within within 3 days, they will be checked back in and removed from your account.

Paying Fines
You can pay fines online with a credit or debit card. For more information, please consult our Fines and Fees.

Interlibrary Loans
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a program that makes it possible for users of the Oak Creek Public Library to borrow materials from libraries located outside of Milwaukee County, usually at no charge. Public, academic, medical and other special libraries throughout the state of Wisconsin and across the nation participate in this program.

In order to request an item through Interlibrary Loan you will need to call 414-766-7900. You need to have a valid Milwaukee County library card. No more than 5 items can be requested at one time.

Items that can be requested through Oak Creek Public Library ILL typically include:

  • Books
  • CDs, DVDs, videos and audiobooks
  • Academic materials such as theses and dissertations

Items that cannot be typically requested include:

  • New items (less than 1 year old)
  • Reference books
  • Materials that are owned by one of the 28 public libraries in Milwaukee County.

If an item is unavailable for borrowing, a postcard will be sent in the mail to your home. It can take anywhere from 1 week to 6 weeks to receive an item. Once the item comes in, you will be contacted by phone.

The loan period for items borrowed through ILL is set by the owning library. Occasionally, items may only be available to view at the library and cannot be taken home. Items borrowed through ILL that were checked out at Oak Creek Public Library must be returned to the Oak Creek Public Library.

InfoPass
Similar to an ILL, an InfoPass allows users to access materials that are unavailable from the Milwaukee County Library System. However, rather than having an item sent to Oak Creek Public Library, the user themselves will go to the owning library and pick up/view the item there. There are several libraries in the greater Milwaukee Metropolitan area (includes public, academic and special libraries) who participate in the InfoPass program.

For more information or to request an item through InfoPass call 414-766-7900. You need to have a valid Milwaukee County library card.
